About us

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

(Hebrews 11:1 NIV)
At the beginning of 2006, a group of brothers and sisters in Christ were dining at Birmingham (Midlands UK). They noticed, firstly, that a lot of overseas Chinese were living in Birmingham as well as the surrounding areas, and wondered how many of them had heard the salvation messages of the Gospel, and secondly, there were only two Chinese Congregations in Birmingham City Centre; namely, Birmingham Chinese Methodist Church and Birmingham Chinese Evangelical Church. Knowingly, a very large majority of the Chinese people have not received Christ yet, so one sister said: “They are like lost sheep that went astray without the Shepherd”. And at that moment, the small group of brothers and sisters responded to God’s calling to be His witnesses and to spread the gospel to the unreached Chinese people by winning them to Christ.

Matthew 28:19 ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:’
Since that day’s dinner gathering, they had been praying earnestly in order to seek God’s will and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, so in April 2006, they started a home Bible study group with 7 to 8 people and supports were given by a Missionary Joe Tam (from oversea who lives in London) and Elder Min Hoi Wong.

While the number of people attending the Bible study group increased over 10 with 2 faith-seekers turned to Christ, they started praying for a church venue so that they can also have Sunday worship services. Two months later, they contacted Harborne Methodist Church and by the Grace of God a small church venue was opened up for them in Harborne to conduct Sunday worship services. They were so thankful for what God had prepared for them. 1 Corinthians 2:9 ‘But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.’

In Matthew 6:33 ‘But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.’ When God provided them with a place of worship, indeed brothers and sisters were facing different challenges ahead. In September 2006, together with the full support given by Elder Min Hoi Wong and Missionary Joe Tam, they started their first Sunday Worship. Finally, with perseverance in overcoming all hardships, all the brothers and sisters were experiencing God’s grace in their midst and with His guidance, they had built their new spiritual home to glorify God and for advancement of His Kingdom.

Birmingham Chinese Christian Church (BCCC) was formally established on 19th November 2006 and they invited the late Field Director of Chinese Oversea Christian Mission (COCM) , Rev David Chi Kong Cheung, who came all the way from America to officiate the church opening ceremony. On that day, there were over 100 brothers and sisters gathered from nearby Chinese Congregations and Harborne Methodist Church. Praise to God in the highest, The Birmingham Chinese Christian Church Limited was registered as a charitable organisation in October 2012.

In the earlier days of BCCC, they did not have a pastor, therefore the Bible classes and Sunday worship were supported by external preachers, like Missionary Joe Tam and Elder Min Hoi Wong, and for the church administration guidance it was given by Elder Min Hoi Wong. In November 2010, God sent Pastor George To to us to take charge of BCCC’s pastoral work for six years. Due to the new policy on rental issues of Harborne Methodist Church, BCCC had to find a new church venue. In May 2014, God had graciously provided a bigger and more suitable church venue for BCCC as they were able to use the Warley Baptist Church, and to these days BCCC are still using the same church venue located in Warley for their Sunday worship services, and for Monday Bible study classes and Saturday training classes. Thank you Lord, blessing, honour and glory be Thine! Amen.
